Heraklion is the largest urban center in Crete, the capital of the region and the economic center of the island. It is easily reached by plane from all over the world, its international airport is first in charter flights, and by boat from Piraeus and the nearby Greek islands. Travelling within Crete is also very easy with bus connections to most places around the island...
The airport Nikos Kazantzakis (airport Code: HER) is the only one in Heraklion. Heraklion has 8-10 direct flights per day from Athens (ATH) and 2-4 direct flights per day from Thessaloniki (SKG). Between April and October there are also frequent charter flights from most major European cities.
